Poles are likely to get away with misdemeanours on Tuesday as police aim to “educate, not punish” as part of a nationwide protest over pay.

Police union chief Rafał Jankowski said officers would, where legally possible, issue a warning instead of a ticket.

Police want a monthly pay rise of PLN 650 (EUR 150), better pay for overtime and working on public holidays as well as better retirement and sick leave payouts.

But the interior ministry said that, as of next January, police officers will already be earning PLN 800 more a month than in 2015. (vb/pk)
