The EUROWAW 2018 gathering was expected to debate energy and military security and cooperation between parliaments, said Stanisław Karczewski, the Speaker of the Polish upper house and one of the organisers of the meeting.

"Representatives of the parliaments of 26 countries have travelled to Poland,” Karczewski told broadcaster TV Republika.

“We are an important partner in Europe. Very many countries from our region of Central and Eastern Europe - as well as the Balkans - aspire to the European community, to the transatlantic community... we want to be their advocates in the European Union,” Karczewski said.

“We want to support them and we will continue to support them, because a strong Central Europe means a strong European Union and a strong Europe," he added.
