Ongoing work to clear up devastation caused by severe storms that battered Poland a year ago will cost around PLN 1 billion (USD 268m, EUR 233m), forestry officials have estimated.

Gales damaged hundreds of homes and wrought havoc in forests in Poland's north and west on August 11 and 12, 2017. Six people died and dozens were injured.

Some 80,000 hectares of forests were destroyed, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

Foresters estimate that efforts to clear up areas struck by the violent winds will continue until the middle of next year.
