Some 4,100 customers were left without electricity at one point after fierce winds uprooted trees and disrupted power supplies in some parts of the country, including its central Mazovia region, Paweł Frątczak, a spokesman for the State Fire Service, said on Saturday.

Firefighters were called out 750 times to help deal with the aftermath of the storms, Frątczak said, as cited by Poland’s PAP news agency.

Strong winds damaged the roofs of 69 buildings, including 36 residential ones, he added.

The State Fire Service helped evacuate 99 people from a scout camp some 200 km south of Warsaw that was at risk of being washed away by heavy rains, according to Frątczak.

A man drowned in the town of Sokołów Podlaski, 80 km east of the Polish capital, after being caught in the rising waters of the Cetynia river late Friday afternoon, the PAP news agency reported.
