Poland’s population set to shrink over next 25 years: stats office

Poland’s population is set to shrink by some 2.8 million over the next 25 years, and the country faces a period of demographic crisis, the Central Statistical Office has warned.

In an analysis, the office said that over the past 25 years Poland’s population had increased by over 360,000.

"Despite the significant increase in the number of births in 2017, it should be borne in mind that the population processes that have developed over almost the last 30 years have led to Poland entering another period of demographic crisis,” the office said.

It added that Poland experienced a demographic crisis from 1997 to 2007, but the next one could last longer.
