The men from Kraków, aged 18 and 29, were found with nearly 200 packets between them, police said, but it is unclear if they were working together or independently.

Police said the 18-year-old, who was carrying 120 packets of either white powder or what appeared to be dried plants, admitted to buying the drugs in Kraków with an aim of selling them in Tarnów.

The packets have been sent to a laboratory for testing.

The man faces up to three years in jail for possession under Poland’s new narcotics laws which put designer drugs in the same category as other illicit drugs.

The new laws could mean jail terms of up to 12 years for drug trafficking offences.

The 29-year-old man, detained separately, was found in possession of 70 packets, according to police. (vb/pk)
