100 int’l figures to promote Poland as it marks centennial of independence

One hundred influential figures from around the world will pool efforts to promote Poland as part of a new campaign as the country marks 100 years since regaining independence.

Athletes, artists, actors, entrepreneurs and other prominent figures from various countries will take part in the new 100x100 project, which was launched by a Warsaw-based foundation on Monday.
“We want to invite them all to Poland, show them our country and organise meetings during which they will be able to learn a lot about our history and culture, to understand the Poland of today and find out about visions for its future,” Robert Lubański, deputy head of the Polish National Foundation (PFN), said, as quoted by public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency.
He added: “The project is targeted at foreigners. We would like to reach as large an audience as possible through the involvement of prominent people from around the world.”
Former Finnish Formula 1 driver Mika Häkkinen, F1 commentator Mark Gallagher and British filmmaker Patrick Ney were on hand as the 100x100 project kicked off in Warsaw on Monday evening, IAR reported.
Poland regained independence on November 11, 1918, the day World War I ended, after 123 years of partition by Russia, Austria and Prussia.
