A change in rules came into force on Monday.

Police who stop a driver will be able to electronically consult a central database to check whether a motorist’s documents are in order, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

Motorists are still obliged to have their driver’s licence with them when on the road.

And they will need a paper registration document when they head for an official check of a vehicle’s roadworthiness. Older cars have to undergo such checks annually.
