Ninety-seven percent of Poles said this was the most important feature they were looking for in candidates for councillors, the study by pollster CBOS found.

The second most important criterion was a candidate’s experience in local government, according to the study. In total, 78 percent of voters said this was a key factor.

Poles will on Sunday head to the ballot box to elect nearly 47,000 aldermen and 2,500 mayors and other local government officials nationwide.

A second round of voting, if needed, will be held on November 4.

Run-offs between the two most popular mayoral contenders will take place when the winning candidate fails to garner more than 50 percent of the vote in the first round.
