Polish doctors will have to issue sick-leave certificates electronically.

Family, Labour and Social Policy Minister Elżbieta Rafalska told reporters that the deadline for the switch had been pushed back twice.

She added that when the change comes into force next month the old type of certificates “will be history.”

The planned new system sparked opposition from some in the medical profession in Poland amid concerns that older doctors would have trouble in coping with modern technology.

But Rafalska said the electronic system would make it easier to issue sick notes.
