During the several-hour simulation, local officials and the military tested the city’s preparedness to deal with a terrorist attack involving the use of an airplane, according to media reports.

Sirens wailed in the city and across Poland’s central Mazowieckie region as officials tested an early warning system.

The exercise, codenamed "Renegade – Sarex 18/II," was organised by the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces, the Gazeta Wyborcza newspaper reported.

The military said in a statement that the simulation aimed to practice ways of responding to "the violation of Polish air space by aircraft … posing a potential threat to the civilian population."
