Adam Glapiński, the head of the National Bank of Poland, said: "I assure you that I am in excellent health, because I read on Twitter yesterday ... that I am supposedly seriously ill and intend to resign. I have to disappoint people -- I do not intend [to quit]."

Glapiński was speaking at the Congress 590 business forum in Jasionka, southeastern Poland.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said at the congress that Poland’s financial supervision institutions were functioning properly.

Marek Chrzanowski tendered his resignation as head of Poland’s Financial Supervision Authority (KNF) this week amid claims that he attempted to solicit a bribe from a business tycoon earlier this year.

Glapiński said that Chrzanowski has not been charged with any offence, adding that the latter’s abilities were highly regarded.

According to a report in the Gazeta Wyborcza daily, Leszek Czarnecki, one of Poland’s richest men, has alleged that Chrzanowski several months ago offered him favourable treatment in return for millions in financial gain.

Chrzanowski has denied corruption, saying the allegations were part of a scheme to discredit him.

Anti-corruption officers are checking Chrzanowski’s asset declarations, according to public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency.
