Overall, almost 800,000 crimes were reported in the country last year, according to PAP.

A study by pollster CBOS found that 74 percent of Poles were satisfied with the way police performed their duties. That figure was the highest since 1990.

Eighty-five percent of those polled said Poland is a safe country, and 93 percent said they felt safe where they lived.

Last year, the number of cars stolen fell to below 10,000 for the first time. The figure for 2018 was 11.4 percent down on the previous year.

Police detained 3 percent more car thieves in 2018 than the year before, according to PAP.
