Firefighters said a coach had collided with two cars in the village of Kabikiejmy, near the city of Olsztyn.

They added the fatalities were adults who were in the passenger cars.

"Eleven children who were travelling in the coach have minor injuries, and are being taken to a children's hospital in Olsztyn," Rafał Melnyk, a spokesman for the fire brigade, told state news agency PAP.

He added that children aged 7-12 travelling in the coach had been on their way back from a trip.
