Poland’s interior minister vows action over email threats

Joachim Brudziński wrote on Twitter: “False alarms, including in cyberspace, are a problem in the contemporary world.”

He added: “I can assure you that the Polish police are making every effort to ensure that those who have sent out … these types of emails over the last few days will be held accountable. Offenders will not remain anonymous.”

Brudziński was speaking after emailed threats were sent on Thursday to regional offices used by the Civic Platform (PO), Poland’s largest opposition party.

A party official said eight offices around the country were evacuated after staff received emails claiming: “Today the HQ of your lying party will blow up, burn in hell fire. A bomb’s ticking.”

The murder last week of Paweł Adamowicz, the mayor of the northern Polish port city of Gdańsk, was linked by many to hate speech in a country which is bitterly divided politically.
