A team from the Tatra Volunteer Search and Rescue Service (TOPR) was flown in by helicopter after the avalanche on Rysy, the highest peak in Poland.

Rescuers said the victims would be flown to hospitals from the site, which is on Poland’s border with Slovakia.

Emergency services teams were alerted by a witness who reported that a group may have been engulfed by the avalanche, state news agency PAP reported.
