Measles cases surge in Poland: report

A total of 217 people were diagnosed with measles in Poland between January 1 and February 15, eight times more than in the same period last year, experts have said.

The National Health Institute reported 46 measles cases in the first two weeks of the year, compared to six recorded in the same period in 2018. Eighty-three infections were reported in the second half of January and 88 in the first two weeks of February.
According to statistics, 349 Poles came down with the condition in 2018. Forty-six of them had received the measles vaccine.
Twelve people were diagnosed with measles-related complications last year, although there were no fatalities linked to the illness.
People aged between 30 and 39 accounted for the largest group of measles cases, standing at 26 percent.
