Around the EU, voting to select a new batch of MEPs will take place between May 23 and 26.

The ballot will be the first in an electoral marathon in Poland, with national parliamentary elections due in the autumn, followed by a presidential vote in 2020.

The European Parliament is the directly elected parliamentary institution of the European Union, of which Poland has been a member since 2004.

Poles will elect 52 Eurodeputies if Britain leaves the EU as scheduled by the end of March and some of British MEPs’ places in the European Parliament are redistributed to other countries.

If Britain does not quit the bloc by March 29, Poles will elect 51 MEPs, the PAP state news agency reported.
