The 28-year-old suspect, from the southern city of Kraków, has admitted guilt, according to reports.

He is suspected of targeting top city officials including Łódź Mayor Hanna Zdanowska, Rzeszów Mayor Tadeusz Ferenc and Kraków Mayor Jacek Majchrowski, Poland’s PAP news agency reported.

Brudziński tweeted on Monday night: “The perpetrator behind these threats was arrested several hours ago.”

All the letters featured the same text: “Let’s play a game. You have seven days to announce your resignation. Otherwise this is the last time you see your family … What do you choose? Life or death?”

Each envelope contained an empty rifle cartridge and photographs of several city mayors, including the late Gdańsk Mayor Paweł Adamowicz, who died of severe wounds after he was stabbed by a knifeman during a high-profile annual charity fundraiser on January 14.

Adamowicz was attacked on stage in Gdańsk in front of a crowd.

The suspect behind the death threats may face a sentence of up to three years in prison, the PAP news agency reported.
