The move comes after misleading advertisements appeared in the media suggesting that dietary supplements can solve resolve health problems, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

The President of the Polish Cardiac Society, Prof. Piotr Ponikowski, said that 43 percent of deaths in Poland are caused by cardiovascular disease.

Such conditions are the main cause of death in Poland, IAR added.

Cardiologist Jadwiga Nessler said that doctors prescribe their patients drugs whose effectiveness has been confirmed by clinical research.

Dietary supplements are not subjected to the same kind of rigorous tests.

Most dietary supplements do not produce health benefits, Nessler was quoted by IAR as saying.
