Meanwhile, officers stopped 1,450 drunk drivers under their Safe Easter 2019 road safety campaign, which lasted from Good Friday to Easter Monday, according to Radosław Kobryś from the National Police Headquarters (KGP).

The Easter weekend is when Poles traditionally head for family gatherings, which are often accompanied by alcohol.

Eight people were killed and almost 100 were injured on Polish roads on Good Friday, police said.

During last year’s four-day Easter weekend, 23 people died and 303 were injured in 238 road accidents nationwide, according to police statistics cited by public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency.
