The figure is higher than the 60 percent who in an April survey said they would go to the ballot box this weekend.

In March the figure was 58 percent, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

CBOS noted that the number of people who declare they will vote can be a long way from the actual turnout on the day.

Ahead of the 2014 European Parliament elections, 40 percent said they wanted to take part, but the turnout was 23.83 percent, IAR reported.

In a televised address, President Andrzej Duda has said that “every vote counts” and that a high turnout in the European Parliament ballot would testify to the quality of Poland’s democracy.

Poles will elect 52 Eurodeputies when they go to the ballot box on Sunday.

The European Parliament is the directly elected parliamentary institution of the European Union, of which Poland has been a member since 2004.
