Poland wants to purchase 32 state-of-the-art F35A fighters from the United States for its air force, Polish Defence Minister Mariusz Błaszczak said on Tuesday.

“Today we sent a request for a quotation… to our American partners regarding the purchase of 32 F35A aircraft together with a logistics and training package,” Błaszczak tweeted.
“It’s high time we replaced post-Soviet equipment with state-of-the-art fighters,” he added.
Polish President Andrzej Duda said in an interview with a public radio station earlier this year that the country’s defence ministry had "already started talks with the Americans about F-35 aircraft."
Poland’s air force in March grounded its entire fleet of aging Soviet-designed MiG-29 jets pending an investigation following a crash north-east of Warsaw.
After the accident, the Polish defence ministry said it aimed to buy over 30 multi-role "fifth-generation" fighters to replace worn-out Soviet-era jets by 2026 as part of the country’s multi-billion military upgrade programme.
