Poland’s opposition parties Civic Platform (PO) and Modern (N) have agreed to join forces ahead of the country’s general election.

“I’m happy to announce that along with… Modern we have decided to create a joint parliamentary caucus and to tighten ties between our structures," Civic Platform leader Grzegorz Schetyna said on Saturday. “We call on people of goodwill to come together. There is no turning back from this path, only in unity there’s power,” he added.
Both parties are part of the opposition European Coalition that came second in the European elections with 38.47 percent, winning 22 seats in the European Parliament. The victorious ruling Law and Justice (PiS) secured 45.38 percent.
Schetyna also promised that the coalition would start touring Poland in June to visit municipalities and counties, especially those where support for the grouping is meager. “If we haven’t convinced them so far, it implies we must try harder now,” Schetyna noted. (mo)
