The move came as investigators probed a ring believed to have traded in stolen vehicles including a Porsche Panamera and top-of-the-line BMW models, state news agency PAP reported.

Prosecutors believe cars were bought in the Czech Republic.

The suspect, who was named by the officials only as “Mamed K.”, “will hear charges after he is brought to the prosecutor’s office,” said Ewa Bialik, spokeswoman for Poland’s National Public Prosecutor's Office.

The man detained on Tuesday was born in Chechnya and moved to Poland as a 17-year-old. He was granted Polish citizenship in 2010.

He began his mixed martial arts (MMA) career in 2004. Three years later he signed with KSW, a leading Polish MMA promoter.

He became KSW’s middleweight champion before announcing his retirement in 2018.
