Prime Minister Donald Tusk has announced that the long-awaited report into the causes of the Smolensk air catastrophe, when President Lech Kaczynski died along with 95 others, is to be released on Friday 29 July.

Although the Polish version of the report is ready, next week’s date has been given as both English and Russian translations of the document are yet to be completed.

However, the Prime Minister said on Thursday evening that the most difficult fragments of the report, concerning the technical details of the doomed flight, have been translated.

“The 29 July – and I have given this date to [Interior] Minister [Jerzy Miller] – is the date I have set for the presentation of the report, regardless of the situation with the translations,” Tusk confirmed.

Even if the translations are not fully completed by 29 July, Donald Tusk stated that certain key fragments of the text will be released to the public on that date in all three language versions.

Earlier, a number of leaks of the so-called ‘Miller Report’ were presented in the Polish media, notably in the Fakt tabloid, which mentioned that some 150 names were responsible for the Smolensk crash in April 2010. (jb)
