Poland celebrates Armed Forces Day

Today is a national holiday in Poland when it gives thanks to members of its armed forces and remembers the 1920 Battle of Warsaw, when Polish troops trounced the Bolshevik Red Army.

Celebrations begin with a Holy Mass at the Military Cathedral of the Polish Armed Forces in the capital.

At 10.00 CET, President Bronislaw Komorowski will present retiring generals with medals for services to the Polish nation.

At noon, there will be the ceremonial changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. (pg)
