The Civic Platform maintains a lead of 17 percent over opposition Law and Justice, which received 29 percent of the votes in the poll.

The poll found that the Democratic Left Alliance, led by Grzegorz Napieralski, would win 11 percent of votes, while junior coalition partners the Polish Peasants’ Party would gain 7 percent of the ballot.

No other party in the poll passed the 5 percent threshold needed to win seats in the Sejm lower parliamentary house, including splinter conservatives Poland Comes First, as well as a group linked to Janusz Palikot, a maverick MP who ostentatiously left the Civic Platform in October 2010.

The poll shows minimal change in the position of the two leading parties, with a gain of 1 percentage point for Civic Platform and a respective loss of 1 percentage point for Law and Justice since the last TNS OBOP poll undertaken in August. The Democratic Left Alliance gained 2 percentage points in the latest poll.

A month before the general elections are held on 9 October, 34 percent of respondents have said that they will definitely vote, while 29 percent have stated that they will “probably” go to the ballot. Only 26 percent of respondents stated that they will not vote, with 11 percent undecided.

The poll was undertaken on 1-4 September among a random selection of 983 adult Poles. (jb)
