Election 2011 – activists storm ‘Green-PiS’ conference in Krakow

Two activists swung down above the stage at the Slowacki theatre in the southern city of Krakow during the middle of Kaczynski’s keynote speech to supporters of the national conservative party, Sunday.

The Greenpeace action follows on from last week, when an activist from the environmentalist NGO stormed the stage at a Civic Platform conference during a speech by Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

The activists in Krakow bore banners stating “Poles Deserve More. Clean Energy,” clearly a pun on the Law and Justice campaign slogan, simply “Poles Deserve More.”

However, Jaroslaw Kaczynski did not seem jaded by the ambush, and asked the protestors to meet for coffee after the conference, although the activists stayed hanging above Kaczynski while he continued his speech.

According to party spokesman Adam Hofman, Kaczynski stated that if Law and Justice come into power after the general elections on 9 October, then he will set up a renewable energy commission.

Civic Platform with “no idea”

During the Law and Justice conference, Jaroslaw Kaczynski told party supporters that Poland and Poles need to find to faith in themselves to keep the country running, slamming the ruling party for hindering opportunities for its citizens.

“Every day Poles are building Poland, breaking down all sorts of difficulties,” Kaczynski said.

“The [Civic Platform] government does not want to – it doesn’t know how to – raise these barriers, and often multiplies them,” Kaczynski continued, adding that “the government has no idea for Poland […] and does not want to Poles to have faith in themselves.” (jb)
