If elections were to be held on Saturday, Civic Platform could have counted on 33.1 percent of the ballot, while Law and Justice would have gained 28.1 percent.

The narrow gap between the two major parties comes as Donald Tusk’s Civic Platform lost around 2 percent from the last poll, while Jaroslaw Kaczynski’s Law and Justice gained the same figure.

Junior coalition partners, the Polish Peasants’ Party would have received 8.7 percent in the ballot, a successive increase from previous polls.

The Democratic Left Alliance gained 12.2 percent in the poll, while the Palikot Movement, a liberal grouping founded by former Civic Platform rogue Janusz Palikot, won 3.8 percent, not beating the 5 percent threshold to gain seats in parliament.

Turnout has also dropped, from 50 to 48.3 percent of respondents declaring their presence before the ballot box on 9 October.

The poll was conducted on Saturday 24 September among a representative selection of 1,100 adult Poles who are eligible to vote. (jb)
