The liberal Palikot Movement has moved into third place in the polls ahead of Poland's 9 October parliamentary elections, with Civic Platform increasing its lead on Law and Justice, according to a new poll.

The latest opinion poll by TNS/OBOP puts the ruling centre-right Civic Platform (PO) on 31 percent, 13 percentage points ahead of the conservative Law and Justice.

In the last few days Civic Platform has lost one percent support and Law and Justice three percent.

The benefactor appears to be the Palikot Movement, a party formed last year around the liberal Janusz Palikot, a former member of Civic Platform.

The Palikot Movement is now on 10 percent support in the TNS poll.

If the opinion poll findings are replicated in Sunday's election then Palikot would be in a strong position to join a coalition with PM Tusk's party.

The Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) is in fourth place on 7 percent and the junior coalition partner over the last four years, the Polish Peasant's Party (PSL) is on 6 percent.

No other party would obtain the 5 percent threshold required to qualify for seats in Poland's lower house of parliament. (pg)
