Trees collapsed, causing damage to power lines.

Repairs began on Sunday following a night of particularly heavy snow. However, progress was hampered by the adverse weather conditions.

The worst-struck areas are near the town of Sanok, and in the Bieszczady mountain range.

Some 2000 households were without electricity by 2 pm on Sunday. More than half were back in order by nightfall.

“Repair teams are working all the time, but weather conditions and the terrain there make it very difficult,” Stanislaw Urbanski from national energy giant Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE) told Polish Radio. (nh/pg)
