The survey, which was conducted by Poland's Public Opinion Research Center (CBOS), indicates that 73 percent of the population believes the president to be the most trustworthy politician.

The results show a small drop of 1 percent for Komorowski since December.

The president is followed in the rankings by Deputy Prime Minister Waldemar Pawlak, leader of the Polish Peasants' Party (PSL), at 52 percent (1 percent rise). Pawlak's party is the junior partner in the current coalition government with Civic Platform (PO).

Third place was taken by Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, with 51 percent (1 percent rise), while Prime Minister Donald Tusk came in fourth with 49 percent (3 percent drop).

In terms of negative ranking, 55 percent of respondents declared that they do not trust the leader of the conservative Law and Justice party (PiS) Jaroslaw Kaczynski.

Likewise, Zbigniew Ziobro, leader of Solidarity Poland (SP), a splinter of Law and Justice, emerged as unpopular, with 40 percent of respondents claiming that they did not trust him.

Ziobro was closely followed at 39 percent by Janusz Palikot, leader of the liberal Palikot's Movement.

The survey was carried out between 5-11 January, taking in 1058 adult Polish citizens. (nh)
