Heavy snow and blizzards sweep through Poland

Around 8,000 homes in Upper Silesia and nearly 2,000 households in Western Pomerania, are without electricity this morning as heavy snow fall covers much of Poland.

Police in Warsaw said there were around 100 collisions on the roads as drivers struggled on slippery surfices. In Silesia, road police reported 187 accidents.
Around 15 cms of snow fell in the south west of the country and 10 cms in the north.
Some delays were experienced at Warsaw's Chopin international airport and train services were also affected.
More snow is expected today, with up to 8 cms expected to fall in the southern Opole region. Temperatures in the eastern half of the country will be from minus 4 to minus 8 degrees Celsius, and 0 to minus 4 degrees in the west. (pg)
