The period of national mourning will last from 5 to 6 March.

The injured, which include Poles but also citizens of the Czech Republic, Moldova and Ukraine, were taken to 15 different hospitals, mostly in south west Poland near to where the collision of two trains took place.

Interior Minister Jacek Cichocki informed on Sunday that one of the 15 who died was a citizen from the United States.

Minister Cichocki said that he was not expecting the death toll from the disaster to rise significantly. (pg)

CORRECTION – This article originally claimed that the period of national mourning would last from 5 to 8 March – in fact, it is a two-day period of mourning only. Apologies.
