In this edition of Euro-File, we take a look at what kind of help the EU could be giving to Libya after the downfall of Muammar Gaddafi.

Following the death of Colonel Muammar Gaddafi the President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek said that he hopes for “a new impetus towards the democratic transition of Libya.”

European Council President, Herman van Rompuy, and European Commission president José Manuel Barroso issued a joint statement saying that, “the death of Muammar Gaddafi marks the end of an era of despotism and repression from which the Libyan people have suffered for too long.”

Reporter Danuta Isler discussed the assistance the EU can now offer to Libya and the other countries of the region following the Arab Spring and the death of Colonel Gaddafi with Paweł Świeboda, the head of Demos Europa think-tank in Warsaw.
