The cost of building a new home in Poland are not getting any lower as building material and labour costs have stabilized in the past few months.
Prices of building materials, which fell significantly between October 2008 and June 2009, have stabilized since June, as have labour costs for construction workers.
“Recently, ceramic and aerated material prices have stabilized, and the prices of sheetrock and insulation have grown. The price increases are minimal and one could say that there is a distinct stagnation in construction costs,” claims Marzena Mysior-Syczuk of Polski Sklad Budowlany, the largest network of wholesale building materials in the country.
Labour prices, however, are still favourable for the consumer. “A month ago, the price [of labour] went up, but it’s enough to have two weeks of poor weather and the prices drop to pre-vacation levels. Construction workers expect less work now and won’t demand higher prices,” says Grzegorz Marcinek of Bud-Ma, a Poznan-based building firm in western Poland. (mmj)
