Poland’s GDP growth rate has beat forecasts and was 1.7 percent in 3Q, according to the Central Statistical Office (GUS).
Compared to second quarter this year, GDP grew by 1.1 percent.
The data shows that Poland’s economy is actually accelerating at a time when many in the EU are still struggling to come out of recession.
Private consumption also grew by 2.2 percent in the third quarter, construction output increased by 7.2 percent year-on-year, up from the second quarter's 4.6.
Poland will be one of the only economies to grow in 2009 and compared to other economies in the region, Poland’s economy looks relatively healthy. The Czech economy shrank by 4.1 percent and the Hungarian by 7.2 percent in 3Q. (pg)
