Personal computer giant Dell is selling its Lodz factory, located in central Poland, to the Foxconn Technology Group.
“Today we are announcing the transfer of ownership of the Lodz Dell factory to one of the world’s biggest electronics producers, Foxconn,” says Rafal Branowski, press spokesperson for Dell Sp. z.o.o., adding that the European Commission will now have to approve the sale.
About 3,000 people are employed at the Dell factory in Lodz. “From their point of view, nothing will change,” assures Branowski, adding the Dell will simply become Foxconn’s client and purchase electronics produced in the factory.
“We are pleased by the fact that Foxconn counts the knowledge and capability of the workers in the Lodz factory and will continue to keep them employed,” says Dell vice president, Sean Corkery.
The European Commission is expected to approve the transfer in the coming weeks and Dell hopes that the transaction will close before the new year. (mmj)
