Controversial ad creates alliance between cops and skateboarders

10.03.2010 14:25

Polish skateboarders have called for a boycott of products by a clothes company which uses their image in a controversial ad campaign.

The ad, which was published in the InfoMagazine Skateboard, shows a teenage skater aiming at a policeman with a gun and saying “On your knees, you bitch!”.

The advert, which promotes clothes for skaters, has outraged both policemen and skaters.

“We have informed the Prosecutor’s Office about this,” said Mariusz Sokolowski from the Police HQ. “The ad encourages young people to commit crimes,” claims Sokolowski.

Meanwhile, Polish skateboarders claim that the ad advocates aggression and humiliation. “It’s contrary to our philosophy. We’re friendly and open,” said Boniek Felicki on behalf of the skateboarding community.

The ad was published after a series of brutal attacks on policemen in Poland, who urged the authorities to introduce harsher punishments for criminals who kill police officers. (mg/pg)

with that attitude then drinking alcohol is a crime as people often damage public property afterwards. smoking should be a crime also as it hurts other people, as should chewing gum which is stuck all over the pavements. the only difference between all of these and skateboarding is that the latter cant be performed indoors so where the hell else are they meant to go?
