Government to reintroduce web censorship bill?

16.03.2010 11:31

Although the government abandoned the idea of blocking web sites with dangerous content, it is still determined to crackdown on the web.

Deputy Finance Minister Jacek Kapica has come up with an alternative solution to the online betting problem, which would enable him to exercise absolute control over the web, say critics. Kapica’s idea is to create a special unit within the customs service, which would control the web and block sites if a court decided that they contained dangerous content or would enable internet users to gamble online, according to the Dziennik Gazeta Prawna daily..

The unit members would be appointed by the Finance, Justice and Infrastructure Ministries.

The minister’s idea is, in fact, a return to the previous government’s proposal to create a “black list” of web sites with dangerous content which should be blocked. The proposal was severely criticized by internet users who claimed that the draft bill would violate the freedom of expression on internet. After the protest PM Donald Tusk assured internet users that the government would abandon the idea and in the future consult them on legislation concerning internet.

“I hope that Kapica’s initiative comes from a lack of communication in the government and not the lack of government’s understanding of what the internet is,” said Jaroslaw Lipszyc, head of the foundation which organized previous protests and is planning to hold a conference “Democracy in times of internet”, to which PM will be invited. The people in Poland exercise limited freedom of speech or in other words censorship of information.

Zionist mafia is not happy they have no control over internet in the same manner they control TV and news papers in EU and USA. Now they try to take freedom of speech and information the web using such idiots as Kapica, but fail all the time.

The entry at 14:53 is an example of falsification of documents which is called "misinformation".

The state fears people gathering opinion for themselves rather than the mainstream propaganda which just confuses people.

I think here is a situation they are saying that you can't take care of yourself and they'll decide how you live your life. Loss of freedom? You bet!

I have experienced censorship with various US and UK sites and I thought communism ended 20 years ago!
freedom of speech

The right to freedom of speech is recognized as a human right under Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and recognized in international human rights law in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). The ICCPR recognizes the right to freedom of speech as "the right to hold opinions without interference. Everyone shall have the right to freedom of expression"

What do I care about "dangers" in the Internet? Maybe I like danger... can't I?
And what about VPNs? Should it be a CRIME to connect to a corporate network (with connection to the Internet) abroad? Because they don't follow dictums of these fools? Every party which would support this nonsense loses my trust immediately (eventually, when there is no trust for any party, the only thing that's left is betraying the state altogether)
"dangerous"!

The stubbornness with which the ruling party returns to the topic proves, beyond all doubt, that - only given more power - they'll do it, they'll never stop thinking about doing it. So give them a president too, and you have the censorship 100%. This party is just stupid in its stubbornness, they can say whatever, and eventually they'll return to this "idea" anyway.
