Plethora of events in store for Chopin Year

Some 2,000 events connected with Frederic Chopin have been planned in Poland to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the great composer‘s birth.

 



 

Among the most important events planned for the oncoming twelve months are the International Frederic Chopin Piano Competition and the “Chopin and his Europe” festival. In January the National Philharmonic will open its cycle of concerts with a recital by renowned Chinese pianist Lang Lang. In March, the Polish capital will see the opening of a Chopin Museum.

 

Events honouring the great composer have also been planned in several countries around the world. Chopin Year was already launched in China, many festivals dedicated to Frederic Chopin will be held in Japan Germany and France.

 

Andrzej Sulek, the director of the National Frederic Chopin underlines that the whole year will see a gamut of fantastic events devoted to the composer.

 

'The first international meeting will be the Midem Fair, we have a special pavilion planned, a new record released for the anniversary and a special concert,” he told Polskie Radio.

 

Chopin Year is also an inspiration to artists from all walks of culture: speical theatre performances are planned, the Oscar winning team from the film Peter and the Wolf is preparing an animated film about Chopin, exhibitions and even comic books remembering the artist are also planned. (ab/pg)
