Works by twenty six Polish composers were on the programme of the just-concluded Festival of Premieres – ‘The Newest Polish Music’ organized by the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice.
The idea of the event, which was launched in 2005 and is held every second year, is to promote the music which is very rarely performed in the regular subscription concerts in the country’s philharmonic halls.
The event also serves as a meeting place for composers of several generations, with the programme featuring new pieces by Jan Krenz, Wlodzimierz Kotonski and Bogusław Schaeffer, now in their eighties; middle-generation composers Piotr Moss and Tadeusz Wielecki as well as the twenty eight year-old Wojciech Blecharz.
All the seven concerts of the three-day festival will be rebroadcast by Polskie Radio 2. (mk)
