Casting has started at Warsaw’s Roma Music Theatre for next year’s production of Les Miserables, one of the most successful musicals which has proved a hit in many cities round the world since its premiere in 1980. It is going to be the second Polish production of the work, after the one in Gdynia in 1989, but the first so-called non-replica production, that is devised by the director and designers of the Roma Theatre and approved of by Cameron Macintosh, the British producer of the show.
This is seen as proof of their respect and trust in the artistic standards of the Warsaw theatre.
Last year’s performance of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera at the Roma Music Theatre is also a non-replica production. The musical has been a great popular success, with almost 400 performances to date.
The Phantom of the Opera is directed by Wojciech Kepczynki, the company’s Managing and Artistic Director and the main architect of its numerous successes, including Miss Saigon, Cats, Crazy for You and Grease.
