Famous pianist Chick Corea is among the stars of the Jazz Autumn in Bielsko-Biała, southern Poland.
He performed during last night’s inaugural concert in the city’s St Maximilian’s Church in a duo with the vibraphone virtuoso Gary Burton. The two musicians have been performing together since the late 1960s and have recorded six CDs.
The programme of the Jazz Autumn includes six concerts with such household names as saxophonist Andy Sheppard with his Quintet, Cecil Taylor and the Tomas Stańko Quintet. Stańko is the Artistic Director of the festival.
Last Sunday, the Tomasz Stańko Quintet scored a success at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall, the last stage of his U.K. tour promoting the group’s latest CD ‘Dark Eyes’. (mk)
