The 18th Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity has started it's annual drive in Poland. The official opening of the charity action, which lasts until the
middle of January, is to kick off with a concert in Warsaw’s
Torwar Hall this evening, Wednesday. The concert will incorporate the
40th anniversary of Woodstock, held in the summer of 1969.
The head of the organisation, Jerzy Owsiak, told Polish Radio in an interview on
Wednesday morning that this year’s donations will be given to children
suffering from cancer. Mr. Owsiak, who founded the Great Orchestra of
Christmas Charity in 1993, added that 78 ultrasonograph scanners were
bought for children’s hospitals thanks to last year’s donations.
The annual event is Poland's largest nationwide charity drive.
