An exhibition of amber treasures from Poland has opened at the Hunterian Art Gallery, University of Glasgow.
Most of the items on display come from the famous Malbork Castle collection in northern Poland which comprises over 2,000 amber pieces from the Neolithic culture to the present day. The exhibition looks at how people related to amber from the Stone Age onwards and at the incredible techniques and skills of Polish amber craftsmen. Amber from Poland and the Baltic region is one of the most abundant in the world.
The exhibition ‘Amber: Treasures from Poland’ is on until 17 April.
It is part of POLSKA! YEAR, a festival of Polish arts and culture which comprises more than 200 events across the UK. The project takes place under the patronage of HM The Queen and HE The President of the Republic of Poland. (mk)
