08.02.2010 09:21

Multi-media artist Artur Zmijewski has received the prestigious Ordway Prize, awarded jointly by the New Museum in New York and the organization Creative Link for the Arts.

The other recipient is Hamza Walker, the Director of Education and Associate Curator at Chicago’s Renaissance Society. They will each receive a cash prize of 100,000 US dollars.

Named after the naturalist, philanthropist, and arts patron Katherine Ordway, the prize acknowledges the contribution of a curator/arts writer and an artist whose work has had significant impact on the contemporary arts scene, and who has yet to receive broad public recognition.

Forty four year-old Artur Zmijewski is a graduate of the Sculpture Department of the Fine arts Academy in Warsaw. Zmijewski’s videos and multi-media projects have been shown at such renowned venues as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Venice Biennale and the Kunsthalle in Basel. (mk)
