Chopin first met George Sand in the autumn of 1836. She was a famous French author of highly popular feminine novels. She was 34, six years Chopin’s senior, separated from her husband, with two children, 15 year-old Maurice and 10 year-old Solange. By the summer of 1838, they became lovers. Summer at Nohant focuses on their passionate and stormy relationship and the composer’s difficulties in establishing harmonious relations with George’s children. (mk)
