Russian TV - 'Poland planned to invade USSR'

Ribbentrop – Molotow pact, August 1939

Russian state television has broadcast a report in which it accuses Poland of collaboration with Nazi Germany against the Soviet Union.

The report says that the government in Warsaw was in a secret alliance with Nazi Germany and japan to invade the Soviet Union.

Today Russians, Ukrainians and Belarusians celebrate National Remembrance and Mourning Day to commemorate victims of WW II, popularly known as the Great Patriotic War. To mark the occasion, as well as the 70th anniversary of the signing of Ribbentrop – Molotow pact, Russian television has broadcast a reportage which claims to reveal a “great mystery”.

The journalists claim that it was not Molotow’s intention to sign the pact with the Third Reich  - an agreement which effectively sealed Poland fate - but he was forced to do so because the USSR was in danger from an invasion by Poland.

They cite documents, yet to be made public, which “prove” that Poles conspired with the Nazis and planned to attack the Soviet Union. Japan was also involved in the plot and its role was to invade the eastern borders of the USRR.

The report “clearly shows” that the Ribbentrop – Molotow pact was a necessity, saving the USRR from Poland’s aggression and helped regain indigenous Russian lands, which had been seized by Poland.

Poland’s embassy in Moscow has said it will take necessary steps in response to the allegations. (mg/pg)

  • Kris 22.06.2009 20:05 HAHAHA. But seriously, the sad consequence of it is that the average Sasza will really believe that = Aim Accomplished. Kris
  • Mac Skiba 22.06.2009 21:35 This is unbelievable, the problem arises is that the Soviets claim to be Poland's liberators, why would we need liberation if Poland was working with Germany? You can't have it both ways. However somehow I am not surprised, this is used for domestic consumption and unfortunately Kris you are right, most will believe it. Mac Skiba

  • Jasiek w japonii 23.06.2009 00:44 It is Hitler that sought alliance with Poland against the USSR.

Nazi Germany’s anti-Russian proposal was bluntly refused by Pilsudski. Two reasons: One, he loathed Hitler’s ultra-ethnocentrism more than anything. Two, with Trotsky’s downfall, Stalin, the advocator of the “Socialism in One Country” policy, abandoned the world revolution, which made the Soviets, compared with Germany, much less of imminent enemies of Poland.

Russians could have been happy had Pilsudski’s ethnically and religiously liberal Poland conquered the USSR. That is obvious when you reckon how many innocent Soviets had to die like dogs and flies under Stalin’s autocracy.

Today’s Russia appears becoming another Nazidom, which is very dangerous. Vladimir Putin, I still believe, is so smart that he naturally understands that the overshoot of the nationalism based on his overwhelming popularity is dangerous, but he is such a pragmatist that he may know well that he cannot change the political climate from inside. Thus Poland must make its utmost effort to lead Europe’s patient and persistent dialogues with Russia. Never let the Germans take the initiative in the dialogues, or they will ignore Poland and might result in another Ribbentrop-Molotov pact within decades’ time - now not the metaphor of the gas pipeline on the Baltic seabed, because I can always see clearly that there still is some persistent anti-Polish sentiment looming in Germany that is today very skilfully hidden beyond the velvet of the rhetoric of the European Union and European Commission. Poland must not execute any cavalry charge against Germans like the one Kaczynski brothers furiously did before because those malicious Germans are doing something underneath. Just stay calm, smile and get hand in hand with good Germans (i.e. the majority of Germans) to deal with the Eastern policies. Now I trust Donald Tusk and Radek Sikorski in this regard as well.

Has the Moscovy Russ , actually the naughty brat of the Russ's ,the youngest of the Troika finally lost his Mongolian mind .Historically the Moscovy Soviets tried to rewrite history by mass
murder and even went so far as displacing the dead in the cemeteries, Lvov is is a good example.Yet again we are witness to the absolute rhetoric of the Moscovy system ,Vladimir Putin
must be laughing his head off at the moment at the controversy that such nonsense entails and AJP Taylor must be rolling in his grave ,while the ape like figure from Georgia can,t move
because he is buried in cement.

  • Joe 23.06.2009 06:49 It's no secret that Poles were deeply anti-Communist (and anti-Russian) before the WWII and they even attacked Soviets before, so this wouldn't strike me as strange if it was true. Having said that, I think Russia should present better evidence than just some allegations. Joe
